What is an "Anti-Mormon?"
It is a label ...
A common term heard is the term, "Anti-Mormon." In Mormon terminology it is a person, group, or organization which has the Devil on their side with the intent to destroy Mormonism.
It is a term originating with the LDS Faith.... In short, a label.
Unfortunately, the LDS religion has effectively used this label to attack legitimate groups whose purpose is to educate. Suppression of information is an underlying core value for the LDS organization. This value, of course, is shielded from the general membership and public. Simply stated, the Mormon historical background --- its origins -- are replete with strong evidence regarding the illegitimacy of the religion. Such information out in the public eye, would, naturally, destroy the LDS Organization -- now a very large, richly endowed corporation.
Many Web sites have sprung up which have been labeled "Anti-Mormon." Not all, but most, are educational in nature. Mormons are "admonished" never to go to such sites nor read any information upon them. Naturally, if one did, they would "lose their testimony." And that is an honest fact. The more one reads and learns about the LDS religion, the less likely one will accept it.
So with that said, such "Anti-Mormon" sites do contain a wealth of information that should be read by anyone before they start their journey into Mormonism. However if you are already a baptized member and the indoctrination program has gelled, going to such sites is definitely a detriment to a successful and happy life with Mormonism. You should not expose yourself to information the LDS church, itself, does not want you to know.
For those who do have a love for their family's future welfare, or just a research interest, do continue your journey gathering more information and knowledge. A very good Web site is run by Sandra and Jerald Tanner. Their site contains historical as well as doctrinal information about the LDS Church. It is one of the best -- if not the best -- researched sites on the Web, containing a wealth of information about the LDS Church. I highly recommend it:
